Organic Cordyceps militaris 12:1 Extract Description:

Cordyceps is a genus of parasitic fungi from the phylum Ascomycota, known to parasitize many orders of insects at different life stages from larva to adult stages. You may have seen this natural occurrence in National Geographic's Hostile Planet. When these fungi attack their host, the tissue is replaced and the fungi sprouts long, slender stems that pierces out of the host's body. Of more than 400 species of Cordyceps discovered, 2 became the focus of health research: Cordyceps sinensis (insect grown) and Cordyceps militaris (a new strain cultivated using plant/grain based substrates).

It's medicinal properties are due to a variety of therapeutically important constituents including cordycepin, adenosine, mannitol and abundant polysaccharides.

Mógū inoculates Cordyceps militaris spawn in 100% organic, vegan and sterilized substrates. No insect host is used.

Now that you know our Cordyceps is not grown out of a caterpillar in our Cordyceps farm above, let's talk about what it does to the body.

Cordyceps is becoming popular especially amongst athletes for its ability to build a strong immune system, more energy, improved endurance, and better stamina. Why is that?

Cordyceps first hit the headlines during the Beijing Olympic games when several Chinese runners smashed various world records and attributed their success to eating Cordyceps mushrooms.

One human study showed that supplementation over a three week period (4 grams per day) resulted in significant improvements in the body's ability to absorb oxygen, improvements in exercise endurance and in some measures of heart health. Another study showed that exercise performance for healthy older people was significantly improved upon taking Cordyceps versus the placebo group.

The mechanism by which Cordyceps improves athletic performance is not fully understood but it is believed that Cordyceps helps improve blood flow as well as the body's ability to burn fat and process glycogen (glycogen is the carbohydrate energy stored within our muscles). Together these effects increase the availability adenosine triphosphate (ATP) in the body, ATP is the source of energy the body uses to power the contraction of muscles.

In addition, Cordyceps have been shown to delay lactate accumulation. Lactate accumulation is responsible for that burning feeling in muscles during intense exercise, consuming Cordyceps means you can exercise harder for longer.

It is important to note that most of the studies on athletic performance only observed benefits when supplementation continued for a couple to several weeks, very little benefit was shown from short term (one week or less) supplementation. Therefore if you choose to supplement with Cordyceps, like any natural supplement, you will need to keep it up for a couple of weeks or more before you can expect to see results.
