Key Benefits:

  • Enhance memory and cognitive function
  • Enhance brain function and development
  • Help maximize focus and learning
  • Helps build mental clarity and creativity
  • Promotes Neurogenesis: improves the growth rate of new nerve cells, the development of synapses between neurons, and survival of neurons

Servings per container:

Mógū extracts can be mixed into anything! Teas, coffees, smoothies, juices, and/or as an extra ingredient in soups, salads, oatmeal, etc. If cooked, do not exceed boiling temperatures. Higher than boiling temperatures can dilute the medicinal compounds.

Mógū recommends a minimum of 2.5 grams a day. For optimal effects and to reflect the dosage given in research studies, Mógū recommends a daily dosage of 5 grams (about 1 teaspoon).

We offer 4 different sizes:
75 grams (30 Servings @ 2.5 grams per serving a day)
125 grams (50 Servings @ 2.5 grams per serving a day)
250 grams (100 Servings @ 2.5 grams per serving a day)
375 grams (150 Servings @ 2.5 grams per serving a day)

Choose-Your-Own Mushroom Dosing Schedule:

For your reference, we include instructions for dosing in our packaging. Mushrooms are adaptogenic. To prevent changes in tolerance over time, choose a dosing schedule below that best suits you:

Lion's Mane Neuro-fuel "dual extract" Description:

Lion's Mane Neuro-fuel helps boost memory and cognitive function by improving the growth rate of new nerve cells, the development of synapses between neurons, and survival of neurons. Lion's Mane "Neuro-fuel" includes both the fruiting bodies and mycelium of Lion's Mane, using a 12:1 double extraction method (including alcohol) which causes the alcohol-soluble compounds to separate from the Lion's Mane mushroom.

Alcohol extracts are typically used to isolate terpenes (specifically triterpenoids), sterols, and flavonoids, which are the main non-water soluble compounds present in mushrooms. Terpenes hericenones (found in the fruiting bodies) and erinacines (found in the mycelium) of Lion's Mane are directly responsible for enhancing memory and cognitive function by stimulating the production of Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) and brain-derived neurotrophic factor within the peripheral and central nervous system. These are called neurotrophins that play an important role in neuronal survival and growth. An alcohol extraction is mandatory in order to produce a substantial amount of hericenones and erinacines in a single serve.

It is important to know the difference between our Lion's Mane products before purchase. Each mushroom species and type of extraction procedure may help support different physiological functions.

Lion's Mane dual extracts in detail:

Due to Lion’s Mane alcohol extracts ability to improve the growth rate of new cells and the development of synapsis, it enables nerves to communicate within each other much more effectively. Lion’s Mane supports the development and maintenance of healthy myelin, helping to safeguard these connections from breaking down in the first place.

One particular focus of research is the effect that Lion’s Mane alcohol extracts have on the Hippocampus: an area of the brain that forms an important part of the limbic system, helping us to regulate our emotions and plays a fundamental role in our memory retention. Human trial research has shown that the consistent use of Lion’s Mane in a dose dependent manner can promote neurogenesis within the Hippocampus which has not only improved the memories of test subjects, but also the emotional state. Long term use of Lion’s Mane has shown significant anxiolytic or anti-anxiety and anti-depressant effects as well.

Research into Lion’s Mane is ongoing, but it clearly does contain a variety of compounds that could prevent as well as treat neurological damage and diseases, many of which are increasingly more common in the world today. There are two main groups of chemicals called Hericenones and Erinacines, both of which are directly responsible for stimulating NGF within the body. Now there are, of course, numerous co-factors and accessory nutrients that do play a role, but without the presence of these two main groups of bioactive compounds, there won’t be any nerve regeneration whatsoever.

All of the different hericenones and erinacines (of which there are many, shown in Table. 1), are either terpenes or terpene bound polyphenols, which means they have low to no solubility in water, but they are fully soluble in alcohol. This is a very important point when looking for Lion’s Mane products within the tricky world of mushroom supplements.

Hericenones are found almost exclusively in the fruiting bodies of the mushroom, where Erinacines are just as exclusively found in the mycelium of the mushroom. This means that if we’re going to take a Lion’s Mane extract or a supplement of some kind for the specific purpose of it benefitting the nervous system, then the product must contain an ethanol extract of either the fruiting bodies or mycelium of Lion’s Mane, or ideally both of them combined.

The water soluble compounds in Lion’s Mane such as the polysaccharides and the beta-glucans (as seen in higher contents in our Lion's Mane Equilibrium hot-water extract), are excellent for the immunological and gastrointestinal benefits, but they do not stimulate the production of NGF. An alcohol (ethanol) extraction is mandatory in order to achieve its production.

All we need to do is look at the chemical nature of the hericenones and the erinacines in Lion’s Mane and understand that they are terpenoid compounds that are largely soluble in alcohol, and that all of the collective research in these compounds and their ability to stimulate NGF has been performed using alcohol based extracts of Lion’s Mane. The terpenes are critically important. Without them, NGF will be unaffected.

Because the indigenous use of this mushroom wasn’t really focused on the neurological benefits, it’s led to many products and extracts being produced in a way that echos traditional chinese methods, but it doesn’t honor the more recent discovery of this mushroom’s ability to stimulate NGF. The industrial preparation methods and the marketing don’t always reflect one another.

Our Relationship with Mycelium:

The structural and functional similarities between the human nervous system and fungal mycelium should also be acknowledged here, because the two are basically identical in almost every way. The difference is one is the domain of the human organism and the other is the domain of the Fungi Kingdom, yet fungi share considerably more DNA with humans and animals than they do with plants. Mógū, along with mushroom enthusiasts around the world, believe this similar structure between medicinal mushrooms and humans are going to be capable of regenerating the human nervous system in much the same way as they develop and maintain their own mycelial networks in nature.
